Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer screenings are a very important part of the dental visit for the patient. With the advances in modern technology, we are now able to pinpoint the start of a potential problem much earlier in its evolution. The ability to do so is extremely important in being able to treat any issues prior to them becoming a major irreversible problem.
The oral cancer screening is often completed with a special light that allows us to view issues that can't always be detected by the human eye under normal conditions.
Certain lifestyle choices can have a great impact on the health of tissues and your overall health in the mouth. If you are a smoker, chew tobacco, or consume more than 2 ounces of alcohol per day, make sure to get regular screenings when you visit the dentist.
Sadly, even patients who do not have any risk factors for oral cancer can still get cancer. That is why we recommend this test for all patients.
We recommend a yearly Identifi™ Oral Cancer Screen for our patients. This screening does NOT require a pre-rinse of any kind. Our hygienist will be happy to answer any questions you may have about this procedure.
Some insurance companies are now starting to pay for this procedure. We have kept the cost low to encourage even those individuals who don’t have insurance or are not covered for this procedure to go ahead and have the test done. Ask our business manager when you come in for your appointment whether your insurance covers the test, and how much the test is without insurance coverage.
We just want to make sure our patients are protected against cancer!
